Spotting our game machines on TV and in the movies is always a hot topic of conversation in the Megatouch office. We take pride in what we do, and whether we like it or not, our eyes have been trained to spot a Megatouch machine, be it old or new, from 30 paces. We are kind of like those trained dogs that can sniff out cancer cells on a person, except… you know… we’re not savings lives here. Now, that’s not to say that this skill isn’t extremely valuable. Well, OK, maybe it’s not, but it’s still pretty awesome to see your life’s work on screen.
The typical Megatouch process of discovery usually goes something like this:
1. Speculation:
“…Did you see ____[random TV show]_______ last night? Did you watch that scene in the bar? Was that a Megatouch???”
2. Investigation:
This step involves finding said show on the internet, forwarding to the scene in question, then repeatedly rewinding and pausing until a clear shot of machine in question is obtained. Depending on internet speed that day, and how many of our coworkers are listening to Pandora and\or Spotify… this part of the process can take anywhere from 5-50 minutes.
3. Verification:
I’d say we have about a 50% success rate.* This means being right about half the time, and when we’re wrong, it’s because what we thought was a Megatouch was actually a cash register. But whatever, part of being awesome is admitting when you’re wrong. Sometimes we’ll look at it over and over, and we’re still not sure. It’s not a perfect system, just something we do.
*I just made this up. While not scientifically proven, it seems about right.
So, like I said…
Sometimes we’re right: (and here are some of the cooler examples)
DEXTER
Way back in 2007, when there was all that business about the Bay harbor Butcher, there was also this episode here when Dex thinks he’s found the guy responsible for killing his mother. He tracks him down in Naples, FL— a dive called the Swamp Bar. If it wasn’t such a hangout for ex-cons and murderers, it looks like a decent place to hang, drink $3 beers, and play the Megatouch Force. You know it hasn’t been updated, so it’s loaded with classics like Astro Joe and Moondrop!
BIG LOVE

Why won't this "poker machine" give me my money? Because it's actually a Megatouch Gametime unit designed for the home consumer, duh!
In season 2 of `Big Love`, there was a multi-episode story arc that involved Bill’s painstaking research and questioning everything regarding a possible purchase of multiple “poker machines”. The family was against it from the start but they shouldn’t have worried. These were just Megatouch Gametime Ion units. They came equipped with over 100 games, but they certainly didn’t pay out any money because they weren’t designed to. If Bill would have purchased these, his family may have had endless hours of fun playing linked Lucky Charms, or 2-player Tic Tac Trivia, but no gambling winnings.

Sorry to disappoint you Bill Henrickson & wives, but you can't gamble on our machines, they're strictly for fun!
So, sometimes we are right, but sometimes we are wrong. We hate to admit it, but it’s true. Check back for a follow-up post about the times we thought we saw something… but were sadly mistaken.
