Ten Oddly Strange and Specific Tumblr Distractions

If you don’t know, Tumblr is a social media site that doubles as a blog host, handing users free space to post text, pictures, and videos that show up in their followers’ news feeds. For some reason it’s chock full of weird, focused, sometimes disturbingly specific content. I’ve rounded up ten of the better/more bizarrely single-minded Tumblrs below, offering a few minutes each of pure, nonproductive, time-wasting fun. By that of course I mean sophisticated entertainment.

As proof of their artistic merit, a few of these blogs use NSFW language. Beware.

Tuxedo Mask Episode Guide

The author's quote for this choice pic of our boy Darien? "The episode in which tuxedo mask is horrified to find out the 3rd person didn’t show up for their three wolf moon photoshoot".

If you were able to resist the crystal-earlobed, wine glass-swirling, gently caressing his own face glamor of Prince Diamond (unlikely) chances are your one true love forever from the Sailor Moon universe was Tuxedo Mask, Serena’s vigilante boyfriend. Let this Tumblr whisk you away one of this “Color Me Badd does Phantom of the Opera” cosplayer’s grand adventures and gently walk the rose petal-lined path through his subconscious. 100% series canon. Maybe.

Clipart Covers

Seems legit.

Clipart is awful and should never be allowed on any official document anywhere, of any kind. But way back in Word 93, my seven-year-old self legitimately flipped out over anthromorphic check marks and stressed-out businessmen and all the fun professional literature I was gonna create with them. I mean, the brochure possibilities alone. Clearly I have a soft spot for the Clip Art Covers Tumblr, where classic album art gets recreated using only royalty-free fonts and images. Readers can even make requests via Ask box.

The Same Photo of Dave Coulier Every Day

No, it is not this picture.

The title tells no lies. Likely a publicity stunt for the author’s comedy blog, The Same Picture of Dave Coulier every day has been going strong since mid-November, posting the same picture of Dave Coulier every day, obviously.

 **** Yeah No Eyebrows

I started out writing a real informative-type description for this entry, a schooling, if you will, on the  **** Yeah Tumblr phenomenon. But seriously, look at that image, is it not haunting you in a way you thought only clown dolls and Victorian death portraiture could haunt? Fun fact: Eyebrows make a huge difference. I knew this already because I was once too young to be trusted with tweezers (thanks, Mom), but you can learn for yourself, the easy, way by checking out this disturbing picture blog.

Dumb Running Sonic

A submission by Tumblr user breebird33.

Sonic runs, man. It’s just what he does. He’s pretty good at it, knows this, and has kind of caught a case of smug jerkface in the bad way. Which makes it fun to watch him faffing about like he just woke up from a coma and it’s the first time his brittle foot-bones have touched solid ground in years.

Gifolas Cage

Mid 90s through 2007 Nicolas Cage was a gift from the universe to our planet. I’m not trying to tell you he’s done being a gift or anything, but can you compare Snake Eyes to Drive Angry? The novelty’s kind of worn off, is what I’m saying. This gif collection celebrates the best of Cage and his movies, and at the very least should provide you with a few weeks worth of reaction images. Hop along to your favorite forums and spread the crazy-eyed love, all.

Awkward Stock Photos

"Perfect." -No graphic designer ever.

Stock photography blessed the internet with Women Laughing Alone With Salad and various other quality lulz. This Tumblr continues the tradition, posting weird pics not attached to any particular meme, including that, I don’t know, googly-eyed thumb gangsta up there, lettuce erotica, and a somewhat concerned, bargain-bin Prince impersonator holding a smiling white baby. For all your basic advertising needs. Occasionally NSFW.

On the Bro’d

Every sentence of the Jack Keroac classic On the Road as told by a Monster-chugging, backwards hat-wearing Xbox enthusiast. A direct translation from the original English to Beef Jerkinese. Philosophical, yet down-to-earth. And ****in’ full of profanity. You dig, Bro?

Third and Delaware

A post from Season 5, Episode 22

Is author Kyle David Larson Humprhey serious? Sarcastic? An expert comedian, subtly working the nuances of parody, or simply the super-est of all Roseanne Barr superfans? Some mixture of both? Either way, highly-entertaining Third and Delaware recaps nearly every Roseanne episode, with an emphasis on fashion. If applique is your thing and when someone says class it up you immediately nod like “I got this,” already reaching for leopard print and/or colored vinyl, consider adopting Aunt Jackie, Crystal, Nancy, and Mrs. Connor as your personal style icons.

Catalog Living

In this room, Catalog Living suggests Gary plots a hostile takeover of Paris.

Ever wonder who actually lives in the fancy set-ups shown in furniture and decoration catalogs? I never did, but I still find Catalog Living hilarious. Watch Gary and Elaine, the fictional residents of an always photo-ready mansion, let their personal drama play out for the world to see, much like their interior design sense.  It’s a soap opera for internet attention spans.

Honorable Mention: Selleck Waterfall Sandwich

It’s been covered before, and the last two entries date back to May 2011, but Selleck Waterfall Sandwich is worth checking out, even more so if you’re a fan of Tom Selleck, waterfalls, sandwiches, or any combination thereof.
